× Welcome, First-Years!

On behalf of the Bard College Center for Civic Engagement, we would like to offer you a warm welcome into the Bard community—and we wanted a chance to introduce ourselves!  

Our Mission
The CCE embodies the fundamental belief that education and civil society are inextricably linked. Through a sense of social consciousness, the CCE creates and sustains relationships with groups and organizations locally, nationally, and globally. 

When you first arrive on Bard’s campus, the amount of on-campus experiences will make it easy to forget about the off campus community. Our role is to provide ample opportunity to help you engage with that community. 

Whether you already know what you want to do (perhaps through a student-led project or volunteering with a local organization) L&T is a time to explore! During the three weeks, we will host a series of volunteer opportunities and events in the surrounding towns to introduce you to the region, our partners, and each other. The L&T schedule mirrors the programs, projects and events that we offer throughout the year. 

The ways to engage are limitless through CCE and our associated offices and divisions. 
 
Interested in our international programs or Bard’s large international network? Want to start a community-based project through our TLS Office (Trustee Leader Scholarship: a collective of student led volunteer organizations), science outreach programs, Election@Bard, take an Engaged Liberal Arts and Science class, join a group volunteer day, or start earning a Certificate in Civic Engagement we can help you connect your academic life to the world outside of Annandale. 

Arriving on-campus: Election@Bard, a student-run group under the CCE umbrella, will be working to register as many of you as possible on Arrival Day. We will help you register or re-register to vote locally or nationally. Tip: memorize the last four digits of your social security number! It’ll help you when registering and when voting!
