In October 2025, Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino announced that the county had awarded a total of $100,000 to four local organizations working to combat hunger and provide food assistance to residents experiencing homelessness or financial hardship. The funding, distributed through the 2025 Dutchess County Agency Partner Grant (APG): Infrastructure program, is part of a broader effort to strengthen local food support networks and address the growing challenges of food insecurity and homelessness in the region. Recent reports show that roughly 10% of Dutchess County residents, including thousands of children, struggle to consistently access nutritious food, while homelessness has risen in recent years due to high housing costs and economic instability. The APG: Infrastructure program helps 501(c)(3) nonprofits purchase essential equipment such as freezers and refrigerators, upgrade facilities, and expand their capacity to store and distribute food, ensuring that more residents can access healthy meals and stable support.
To support those in need during these difficult times, the Civic Ambassadors are partnering with the CCE, Red Hook Responds, and Bard Athletics to run a food and donation drive. From November 1st to November 14th, bring your non-perishable snacks and ready-to-eat food items to the Stevenson Athletic center to help address food insecurity in your community.
