In an effort to foster civic literacy within the Bard community, the Civic Ambassadors develop a series of weekly newsletters that cover issues related to and the ecosystem of local government. Occasionally, they also host events in collaboration with student clubs and organizations on campus, as well as with local organizations.
Our Initiatives
Mayor Monday
A series where we introduce mayors from nearby villages, towns, and cities to help educate the Bard community about the role of even the smallest local governments.
Funding Facts
A series where we track how taxpayer dollars are allocated in surrounding communities with the goal of increasing understanding of local government budgets and their impact on residents.
Civics 101
Getting in the Know
Civics 101 is an information campaign focused on providing up-to-date, factual information for the Bard community on how local, state, and federal government works, including ways Bardians can engage with local elected officials.
Civics Collectives
Community Working Groups
Civics Collectives are informal, inter-generational working groups consisting of faculty, staff, and students who organize events around different areas of interest. Collective events include discussion groups, book clubs, community dinners, mutual aid support, and volunteering opportunities.
